DC released their June solicitations, and along with them, their Joker variants. There’s a bit of controversy over the Batgirl variant doing rounds on social media. The gist of it is that the image sexualizes and unnecessarily revives a traumatic incident from Barbara Gordon’s past, which is counter to the book’s current tone of empowerment. Personally I don’t see it, and find arguments for it are grasping at straws to make a point.
Albuquerque’s cover is a great piece of art that depicts an acclaimed and disturbing storyline from DC’s archives. This is one of the things that makes variants great… they can pay homage to other stories and artists without the need to fit the current series.
With that said, you can check all the variants below, starting with my own favorites by Ben Oliver, Jock, Bill Sienkiewicz, and of course, Rafael Albuquerque.
