Paolo Rivera noticed something familiar about the new Iron Man 3 poster because it looks to have been inspired by his very first Marvel cover from 2002, Iron Man #63:

Sometimes — just sometimes — a painting serves as the "wacky" reference for a photo. I couldn't be more flattered. All I can say is that I hope a similar scene appears in the movie — and that there's an electrical outlet in the empty alcove. This isn't the first time Marvel Studios have used comic artwork as inspiration for movie posters. Just look at the Captain America poster based on Steve Epting's artwork.

I covered the Captain America poster he's referring to last year. Considering the enormous archive of content they have, it's not surprising that Marvel keeps looking back to past publications for ideas. Check out the new trailer for Iron Man 3 below, then head over to Rivera's blog for more details on his cover.
